Blu-Ray Review: Drive

When DRIVE first came out, like many people in a busy life, I sadly didn’t have the time to take notice. However, when it came out on Blu-Ray i picked up a

copy to watch at home and boy am i glad i did. To say that DRIVE is a cinematic masterpiece would be an understatement, director Nicolas Winding Refn has soundly placed himself in the top tier of cinematic masters.

Drive is shot beautifully and crafted with amazing skill.  Hearkening back to the time of Steve McQueen or a 1980′s Michael Mann movie, the mood and dark brooding and deep connection of characters.  Though shot in HD, the feel is surprisingly cinematic and with texture.

The Blu-Ray has a 28 minute interview with the director and four EPK’s running about another 28 minutes.

DRIVE’s cast is simply spectacular, with Carey Mulligan as “Driver’s” next door neighbor who is stunningly wounded with a young son and a husband in jail. The supporting cast is amazing, with Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston and Ron Pearlman each delivering brilliant roles.

DRIVE is a movie with a brutal rawness that is both beautiful, violent and peerless in 2011, and a movie that is a classic.

For what it achieves, this R Rated movie delivers a 10 out of 10 star review.  The movie needs to be seen.
