In a startling development, President Obama’s Presidency continues its Un-Constitutional activities.
On a legal basis, Leon Panetta the Secretary of Defense, says that the Executive Branch can commit American troops to war activities without Congressional approval. This is expressly outlined by the Constitution and via even more definition by The War Powers Act of 1973. This act is factual in restricting the President from committing military to any war activity.
However, in recent testimony to Congress on Syria, The Secretary of Defense, states that they would rely on United Nations approval or NATO approval of war activities. Essentially, Paneta articulated that they are going to seek International approval then come to Congress to tell what they are going to do. Not for Congressional approvals of any sort.
This is an expansion of the Presidency as a unchecked power and illegal under our Constitution. The Congress must be strictly adhered to for any and all approvals for war activities. Period. This is just another move to empower the Presidency over and above Congress and the other branches of the Federal Government, which is even more startling when you consider NDAA provisions allowing for unconstitutional arrest, incarceration or murder of Americna citizens without due process and attempted destruction of Habeus Corpus or Posse Comitatus.
This movement against the Constitution to make the US President derive unchecked powers from foreign organizations such as the UN or NATO is a startling threat to the state of the American Democracy. Even being invited in to help a government to act militarily can lead to large wars, such as in Vietnam. Hence the strict need for limitations as articulated by the War Powers Act of 1973.
This is scary when you look at the big picture, this has already been in action, in Egypt, Libya, Iran and elsewhere. Without Congressional approval, the Obama Administration has been actively using Military on covert campaigns, destabilizations, “democracy” campaigns, UN/NATO war campaigns to put Muslim Brotherhood into power utilizing billions of American military troops and resources.
It is hard to rationalize this as anything other than treasonous to the Constitution and the United States.
